Most of dld deals with the object file format, which is completely
different for coff than a.out. If dld already has a coff loader in it
(didn't last time I looked) then that could be modified to work.

No. The BSD format makes DPMI uses an extra 4M of memory, and the
symbolic debugging blows up when you mix formats.
