Hi, DJGPPers,

first of all, I was able to fix the problem with CPP.EXE. There were
older and newer parts in the source, written by different people at
different times. The reason for the strange behaviour was a not-found
header file (2 times nested). Running only CPP on the source solved
the mystery.

And now, many thanks to all who responded. That's really what a mailing
list is for !  :-)
