Here is a compilation of previous messages on where to find make versions.
I found ndmake and nmake on the simtel mirror nic.funet.fi (but haven't
tested them yet - I still use make from Turbo-C 2.0).
Hope this helps.

The new Borland C compilers (including Turbo C(++) 3.0) come with
two versions (Make 3.6) of make, a real-mode version (MAKER.EXE) and
a protected mode version (MAKE.EXE).

I have encountered problems using (protected mode) MAKE.EXE together
with gcc ('DJGPP'). The real-mode version (MAKER.EXE) works fine.

There are many makes available through FTP, so I don't include one.
For the same reason, I don't include an editor. I use both ND-Make
and GNUish Make, although Borland's maker and DMAKE have been used.

The make.ini is for ND-Make.

djgpp does not include a make executable. libsrc's makefiles use
gnuish make, gnu programs use ndmake, go32 uses turbo-c's make.

Per the Discussion on Ohl's MAKE 358:

I found a working version on Paderborne University's FTP site.
The file is make358.zoo (there is a zip there also, but it's corrupt).
Interestingly enough, the filesizes are the same, but the timestamps are
different by about 2 hours... Whatever.

You can obtain a executable dmake.exe for MS-DOS at the following ftp site:
-------------------------------- readme/cover --------------------------------
-
dmake is available for anonymous ftp from watmsg.uwaterloo.ca address is
129.97.141.9. It is in the pub/dmake directory, set your mode to binary,
and copy either:
        dmake38.tar.Z - compressed tar archive
        dmake38.zoo - zoo archive
dmake38-msdos-exe.zoo - MSDOS executable zoo archive
dmake38.shar01 - xx part shar archive, get all parts
        ...
        dmake38.sharxx
        dmake38.patchY - Patch Y for dmake 3.8
Note that all archives are created on a UNIX system. This means that the
distributions heading for DOS-land need to have the <lf> turned into a
<cr><lf>. There exist a number of filters for doing this (sed comes to mind),
and is easily run over each file using a UNIX shell script. Thus I don't
provide two different versions of the archives.

Subject: Broken gnuish make
I think I may have solved the gnuish make mystery. There is indeed
a corrupt version out on most ftp sites called mak358ax.[zoo,zip]
but there is a working version on wuarchive.wustl.edu in
systems/msdos/gnuish labeled mak358bx.zoo. The date on the working
version of make.exe is 9-10-90, while the broken version is dated
2-22-92. Hopefully this will fix some problems for people.
