Subject: Exception 33

Hi all!
I just made the mistake of buying a new machine (AMI
Enterprise-III EISA 50MHz 80486 motherboard, AMI EISA SCSI-2
controller, ATI EISA Ultra Graphics Pro, 16MB RAM, and the usual
assortment of other goodies) and moving transPacific at the same time.
So I don't have my DJGPP archives just when I'm having problems
(they're on a QIC-80 tape on a ship near Midway Island...).
I'm running the standard DEMACS Japanese language version of GNU
Emacs over DOS/V 5.0, QEMM 6.03, and Corel SCSI ASPI drivers. The
English language version works fine, using both the old DEMACS-kludge
version of GO32 (aka DEMACS.EXE) and GO32 v1.09 (this also works under
Desqview/X). Other GO32 applications work fine, including xdvi, xv,
gcc, etc.
However, the Japanese version NEMACS does some of the
initialization (ie, Emacs actually comes up and starts executing lisp
code from _emacs) but then proceeds to choke with an "Exception 33".
As far as I can tell, it chokes at the same place, in the same way,
with both DEMACS.EXE and GO32 v1.09. The Japanese version does work
on an AMI 486/33 with IDE disk and STB Powergraph video, AMI 386/33
(IDE disk, Paradise VGA), and on a Toshiba J3100 386SX/20 notebook.
The former machines remain in Columbus Ohio, the latter is too slow to
use regularly (printing takes *forever*---can you imagine downloading
1500 character fonts at 300dpi!?)
(?) What is Exception 33? Any ideas on fixing it that do not
involve recompiling Emacs (I don't have the Japanese source)?
(?) Has anybody recompiled or seen any evidence of a recompiled
NEmacs (= Japanese Emacs) for GO32? I've seen several people
        recompiling Emacs, but no NEmacs.
I'm sure that "exception 33" is an OAQ (Occasionally Asked
Question), but not FAQ enough to appear in the last two months :-)
Thanks for any help, and your patience....
