   I want to *make* gzip-1.2.3 on a 486-PC with MS-DOS and gcc 2.4.1, but
no makefile is delivered for that purpose, but only makefiles for MS-C,
Borland C, Amiga gcc, atari, vms gcc, makefile.in and configure (which
   doesn't work on MS-DOS).

I compiled gzip-1.2.3 with djgpp. There is a Makefile for djgpp in the
distribution, probably in msdos/Makefile.djg or similar.
The Makefile needed some trivial tuning.

Did anyone solve this problem? I'm afraid to
   destroy something if I only do a gcc -O -c *.c\n gcc -o gzip gzip.o *.o\n.

This wouldn't be a very good idea, because you want match.S which is
much faster than the corresponding C-version.

   Thank you.
