Have you tried the -v (verbose) option for gcc? This should tell you what
file is not being found. Also, there _used_ to be a typo in the docs. One
of the environment variables had a colon separating two paths instead of a
semicolon, which led to things not being found. Since you mentioned having
the program for a while, you might have been caught by this.
