Subject: perl ... again

Having just ftp'd back a version of perl that claimed to be for the
386+ processor I was disappointed to find it only used high memory
(MS C compiled). And a quick test seemed to indicate it isn't much
faster than the regular DOS version I had before. As perl tends to
be I/O intensive I was wondering if it were compiled using gcc if
things would speed up? I did replace my 8086 version of grep with
the FSF/djgcc version and saw a BIG speed increase and grep is I/O
intensive ... right?

So, has anyone compiled perl with djgpp? If not, or you won't own up
to it, I'll give it a try.

Thanks in advance for any info/help,
                             Rod Anderson
`oh yeah I got a real address now!'
