DEmacs 1.2.0, based on GNU Emacs 18.55 and DJGPP 1.04 (or whatever) is
the latest one. It does make sense to update GO32 to the latest
version, which works fine. You do not need to apply the
Higashida/Hirano patches.

DEmacs 1.2.0 is probably the last direct port of Emacs that Hirano and
Higashida will do. They are currently (as of 9 months ago---how time
flies) working on a port of MuLE (multi-lingual Emacs). I don't know
how useful it will be for English only users. There are several bugs
in English text handling in the Japanese version of DEmacs (nemacs),
which have to do with differences between English and Japanese lexical
conventions (word-breaking and so on). Whether these would still be
broken in MuLE or not I don't know. I've never seen MuLE in any case
(has anybody?)

I am not yet a qualified hacker, and presently haven't the time. I
would also like to see a port of Emacs 18.59, or 19 whenever it comes
out. And a port of Epoch to DV/X. One of these days I'll give it a
try. I expect to take a *lot* of time at it!

Yes, it's broken. If you want to profile, and are not using
communications in the background, you can use 1.08. In general, if
you need to get back mail, it's available on sun.soe.clarkson.edu in
/pub/msdos/djgpp/djgpp, (if I remember correctly) and
ftp.math.niu.edu, in /pub/msdos/djgpp/<something>.
