Subject: rebuilding go32

Howdy all,
I'm running into some trouble trying to rebuild go32. I am using
borlandc 3.0 instead of turboc, so I edited the makefile and replaced tcc
with bcc. Things went OK until the third or fourth source file, when the
compiler froze. I rebooted, continued, and it happened again a couple files
later. This time there was an error message:

Fatal: Memory allocation error
Reason: Unable to realloc core
Unable to load command.com
halting system

or some reasonable facsimile thereof. This happened while running both bcc
and tasm. It happens under qemm, himem, or no xms driver. It happens with
no TSRs loaded, and my usual set (mouse and alias). I was able to reboot and
continue, compiling a few files at a time, but now I can't even do that. I
downloaded the gnuish file utilities (mv, etc) from wuarchive (futi14ax.zoo)
in order for the makefile to execute correctly. Am I missing something here,
or is there really a problem? Also, the make utility seems to require a tab
rather than spaces in the makefile. bug or feature?

I have a 386SX w/6MB ram, the usual other stuff. Thanks all. If I am just
doing something stupid, reply via e-mail so I can avoid further embarrasment.
