Unpack the pdcurses distribution into a directory named "curses".
Change directory to the one immediately ABOVE this directory, so
that the distribution starts at curses/* and below.

Then apply the patch with the command:

  patch -p0 <curses.pat

and it should apply cleanly.

:-) Certainly I had the easy part. We have to thank Mark
Hessling for the package itself.

I'll cc this to the list in case you're not the only one having
problems.
