In what sense?

It has a code-gen switch that tells the optimizer to create code
optimized for a 486. Please note that this code may run at a
significant penalty when running on a 386, due to internal pipelining
differences, etc.

Personally, I compile cc1 and cc1plus for myself with 486 code gen.
Your mileage may vary.

When in doubt, stick with 386 optimizations... that way, you make
an executable that won't run terribly on a 386, just won't run as
fast as it could on a 486.
