Problem running DJGPP 2.2.2 (ZIP-Files djdev109, djgas138, djgcc222,
dated Nov. 2, 1992):

Hello World, a Gnu-Greenhorn needs help!

Following the installation ritual as given in README, I have no problems
getting all files installed on my PC 486. However, compilation of any
program fails, regardless of invoking the compiler directly, or using MAKE.
The error message is "Unknown file type 0x2a2f". The Hex-code represents
*/, which are the first 2 characters (beginning of a comment, in reversed
order) in the C-source file.
Obviously, GCC uses its intelligence to look into the source file because
it cannot recognize the file type. I correctly specified the file extension
and set all environment variables as required. I checked my GCC usage with
a UNIX-GCC user at our Institute, but he could not fix the problem.
So I kindly ask you to send me some hints on how to run GCC, and not to
throw away my DOS-machine!

Many thanks in advance,

G.D.
