Subject: TeX compiled with GCC

Greetings

Why compiling TeX with DJGPP, since there exists already a VERY GOOD
implementation of TeX for MS-DOS? I am talking about emTeX; this has
a version which works in protected mode. I believe that it was compiled
with GCC under OS/2 and works in MS-DOS using a DOS extender (emx).
The current version of emTeX386 is 3.141. This is probably faster
than UNIX TeX compiled with DJGPP. In a 486 (33MHz) with 8Mb RAM and the
Hyperdisk cache, it TeXs the TeXbook in 2.5 minutes. What's the performance
of TeX compiled with DJGPP?

Best regards
                  JM
