I have had very good luck with emTeX, which is free.

I have TeXed the manual with emTeX and its dvips386 on my 386/25.
The postscript is too large to mail:
gcc.dvi 968580 8-27-92 13:04
gcc.ps 1409342 8-27-92 13:17
gcc.tex 129260 7-06-92 21:59
gcc_ps.zip 477633 8-27-92 13:20
I have zipped the postscript file, and uploaded it to the tmp
directory of ftp.uu.net.
You will have to print it on a system capable of dealing with
a 1.4MB ps file. (Our suns won't.)
