I normally use ndmake for building the FSF utilities, and GNUish-Make
for the libraries.  Since GNUish-make is configured by default for
MicroSoft C, I normally use NDmake, which I've reconfigured for gcc.
They should all be available on your friendly neighborhood FTP site.
