Hm. I had a very similar sort of problem, when an executable heavily used
the HD. Sometimes an error occurred like this: the HD lamp went on for a few
seconds and afterwards DOS popped up with a drive read error or something,
but it refused to accept any answer to the (r)etry (a)bort (i)gnore question.
In any case the machine froze requiring a hard boot.
