why don't you take the f2c-package from simtel? there is a f2c-exe with
ready-to-use translator and libs (MSC) and f2c-src with lib-sources.

You have to unpack it first. the dj-package contains a compress, i think.
You must compress -d the .Z file (capital Z btw.) first and untar it 
afterwards. You cannot use zoo, zip or anything else. They're all different.

If compress complains about foo.tar.Z not found (or even better: foo.z.Z
not found) rename foo.taz to foo.z, compress -d foo and rename it foo.tar
afterwards.
