I haven't tested, but I'm afraid, that this will cause problems also on LFN 
system, when name numeric tails are disabled. Perhaps several of these
files will be lost also when unpacking source archive.

I myself don't disable name numeric tails already for a long time, after I got 
some file acidentially overwritten. Also at some package which I use have
huge number of such DOS 8+3 filename conflicts (for example GSL)
