Comments below. Seems biggest bang for effort is GCC 3.x versions,
a gdb, a gettext, a binutil, shoot some bison
> automake: 1.4, 1.5
1.5 seems to be missing documentation, only 1Mb
> binutils: 2.11.2, 2.12.1, 2.13
Given problems with newer binutils and UPX, I'd like to keep 2.11.2
around. 2.12.1 and 2.13 - about 20Mb each (nuke one?)
> bool: 0.2, 0.2.1
200K, trivial
> bison: 1.28, 1.29, 1.30, 1.32, 1.33, 1.35
keep 1.28 (last reasonably sized one),
1.29 seems to be missing docs (good candidiate to nuke)
1.30,1.32,1.33,1.35 are each about 2Mb each (nuke 1.29 .. 1.33 ? = 10Mb? )
> cvs: 1.9, 1.10
1.9 is pretty different, only 1Mb
> diff: 2.7.2, 2.8
About 1Mb
> emacs: 19.34, 20.5
19Mb, 25Mb
> fileutils: 3.16, 4.0, 4.1
3 to 4Mb each
> gcc: 2.95.2, 2.95.3, 3.0.4, 3.1, 3.2, 3.2.1
2.95.2 has docs, needed by something else?
2.95.3 keep
3.04 23Mb nuke
3.1 34Mb (has g77 docs)
3.2 32Mb
These are big, we should trim stuff here
> gdb: 4.18, 5.0, 5.1.1, 5.2.1
5Mb, 20Mb, 20Mb, 17Mb (fewer distributions in 5.2.1?)
Keep early, nuke one or both of middle ones ?

2.1 must be kept for compatibility for old patches, small (remind me to refresh)

6Mb, 12Mb

1.18 is tiny, keep
others about 1Mb each
> shellutils: 1.12, 2.0j, 2.01
1Mb, 3Mb, 4Mb
> texinfo: 4.0, 4.2
no docs with 4.2
