This one is for DJ: he coined the way DJGPP *.zip files are made long 
ago, and we've been following that since.  I guess some program, perhaps 
on SimTel, needed those *.ver files.  DJ?

Actually, I just followed the advice from either Andris or Robert 
Hoehne.  As usual, I don't remember the details, only that the _DJGPP 
suffix was gratuitously limiting the area of applicability of that 
setting.  IIRC, it had something to do with the fact that the _DJGPP part 
designates the OS for which that setting is applicable, and this 
particular setting is not limited to DJGPP.

Perhaps Andris could explain more.
