What exactly is the problem with "."?  I'm afraid I didn't quite
understand that from your original message.

Yes, it's very annoying.  This goes back to NT4, btw, so it's
probably there for good.  One solution would be to use the ported
rxvt or some other ported terminal emulator, but I never had time to
try how well does it behave with DJGPP apps.
