It's just not supported.

They won't work then.  They don't currently.

Microsoft did and they got away with it :-)

C:\>cd \\cws333\c$\djgpp
'\\cws333\c$\djgpp' is an invalid current directory path.  UNC paths are not 
supported.

It appears the changes to support UNCs might not be too bad (a few more
if blocks here and there).  Maybe when I get caught up a bit.
