It cannot be `fstat', I think, because the only library functions
which call `fstat' are `link' and fpathconf.  And djecho doesn't call
these, IIRC.

It would help to know where exactly (in what library function) does
the thing hang.  Since djecho is a very simple program, that should be
easy to find out.
