I'd like to see the patched code work at least on plain DOS and
Windows 9X, before we accept it.  I have this on my todo list, but
didn't yet have time to do it.  Feel free to test on those platforms
and report the results here.

That would be good, too, especially if the application is run on
several different platforms.

I don't think we can trust our eyes in this case: the original code
looks quite correct, but it still fails on NT.  We are up against
Microsoft's misfeatures here, not against our own bugs.
