It's more of an Autoconf problem than a Bash problem. Autoconf's 
AC_CHECK_TYPE checks <sys/types.h> and so does the AC_TYPE_* 
macros.

It's too easy to forget! Perhaps if the port of the next version of the diff 
utils converted backslashes to slashes?
