9X will still show problems if you change the LFN settings.  In
general, it's a bad idea to install in an LFN directory.  By the time
you realize that it's OK, you also know enough about LFNs to avoid the
problems installing in an LFN directory causes.

So, even if it could work, I'd still rather tell people to do it the
safe way.
