I went through the egcs mailing list archives the other day, and the 
patch was rejected. See http://egcs.cygnus.com/ml/egcs-patches/1999-
02/msg00547.html for the patch and the thread it generated. If there's 
going to be a solution, it looks like the bintutils people will have to be 
the ones to talk about it with.

I removed the cygwin code because my code would also work with 
cygwin. But it turns out that cygwin specific code was deleted from the 
mainline sources in the past few days, so it doesn't matter anymore.
