Bingo! No I didn't try that. Removing EMM386 makes it work.

Right! Removing the line with DISPLAY.SYS also makes it work.

I didn't try those.

To summarise: if I remove either EMM386.EXE or DISPLAY.SYS, it works.
ANSI.SYS has no effect. I didn't try changing the lines using MODE.

So how do we correct this?
