I don't like global flags, they complicate things.  But this might be a 
starting point, if you don't want to mess with redirection.

I don't see any immediate problems, since you only switch tasks on an I/O 
call, and at that point the FPU is not interrupted in the middle of some 
operation.  Did I miss something?

I'm afraid I won't have enough time to do it myself in the near future.  
But I'd like to help in any other way I could.
