If info's standard streams are redirected to a file, it works as a filter 
and doesn't initialize its screen management at all.  So the offending 
code is never called.

Is it correct that without EMM386 (HIMEM alone) it doesn't crash?  I'm 
sorry, I don't recall if you already told that.

Do these two change anything if not loaded?  I think at least DISPLAY.SYS 
remaps/changes the font table, so it might be a part of the equation.

Likewise with these, I suggest trying without them.
