I understand now. After some tests I ran, I finally discovered how
stupid I am sometimes. It wasn't DJTAR's fault, it turned out to be
something completely different:
I used UPX (the Ultimate Packer for eXes, beta-release, the successor
of DJP) to pack all the new DJGPP-utils. I did this to test UPX and to
conserve some space. I never had problems with it...
Until I ran DJTAR on a tar-file. DJTAR turned out to be the *only*
exe-file in djdev* that did not extract OK. That is, running `upx -d'
didn't give the old executable back (four bytes became garbage). This
caused DJTAR to crash on every tar-file.
I'll inform the UPX-authors of course. Never mind the crash, and
thanks for replying.
