I was wandering about that limit (I just recently put support for the
Windows clipboard in my own editor).

VERY painfull, just look at all the patches I sent in, and still not all
issues were taken care of.

I think Charles' solution (and what's used in Emacs) of either
allocating another buffer or resizing the transfer buffer from within
the program is probably the best way to go about it.
