That's what I will try to do if I don't hear from anybody else.

Running configure is a lot, but not everything.  I need to go through the 
program sources looking for things that break on MSDOS (such as the 
assumption that all absolute filenames begin with a '/', or that `read' 
always returns the same value as the size returned by `stat') and fix 
them.  The larger the program and the less I'm familiar with its 
internals, the harder this part is.
