I haven't actually looked inside the texts, but I'm almost sure the
character codes are *not* the same. MSDOS uses its own character set
('codepage 850', or 'codepage 437' can both be used in German, e.g.),
and doesn't comply to ISO-8859-1 ('Latin1') at all. If you need
reference material, transfer the texts via 'recode'. It can translate
from DOSish to ISO-Latin-1, among other features.

This is a major nuisance in using the same text files in both DOS and
Unix here in Germany.
