   One question:  Registry access functions are in -ladvapi32.  What
   would be the implication of using these advapi32 routines from
   within cygwin?

cygwin already uses routines from advapi32 (see registry.cc), so the
additional implication would be zero.

In fact, if you use those routines yourself, your code will be a bit
simpler.
