I actually don't dislike the spin control.  It's quite powerful and once
you get used to it, it makes sense.

I think that the "get used to it" part is the problem.  It's a barrier
to users.  The first time user probably doesn't need it but once someone
discovers that they need to download sources, too, they're in trouble.

This is probably why things like drop-down menus were invented.  Everyone
seems to understand those.

Here's a really radical idea -- how about throwing out all of the windows
specific stuff and the .rc file and going with something like fltk
( http://www.fltk.org/ ) instead?
