My eyes must have assumed it was part of the previous text. As you suggested, I used it to get the plain text patch and will try it soon. My policy is to only build and install from trusted tarball releases as much as I can. That is the package system Slackware has set up and I am trying to follow it. I build my own Slackware packages from the tarballs and install the resultant packages, just like a Slackware package. I did get the patch working with this plain text file. However, now it is hanging on the glib 2.58.3 requirement and Slack 14.2 has 2.46.2. The next hurdle. Thanks for the enlightenment. Girvin
