Unfortunately, since Gtk considers window creation and drawing out of bounds to be a feature, not a bug, it's up to the application to enforce sensible behaviour.

Alas, the last time I decided to tackle the issue I discovered that window creation is scattered throughout gschem... so I ended up with a udev hack instead...
