Ah, yes, that was the problem: I used to have the net:pin definition "net=[name]:1" (not visible), together with "netname=[name]" (visible) -- but for some reason, it is no longer allowed to have both a net and a netname attribute defined. So some older, larger designs now throw dozens of errors all of a sudden. Apparently, this can be fixed by replacing the netname attribute with the value attribute -- which is a simple matter of search & replace in a text editor, so I won't have to modify all those elements by hand.
