No, you don't need to install all packages. At the very least, you will need gcc4 gcc4-g++ binutils make You will probably need gdb You may need autoconf automake libtool You'll have to ensure that NetBeans can run Cygwin's gcc and/or make. You can achieve this by putting C:\cygwin\bin into the Windows version of PATH.
