I did look into Cygwins patch for coreutils. It has 1231 lines of diff code. A lot of the stuff is related to the ".exe" magic done by cygwin. Do I have to implement that magic in this extend into every package that I would like to run on Cygwin or is this rather special in the case of coreutils?
