Well, it seems to have /something/ to do with the fact that mintty is a GUI app. The original run.exe program doesn't have a problem with mintty -- and run.exe has special code to (a) detect if a target is GUI, and (b) use an alternate method to spawn the target if so. run2 doesn't have that.
