Until Cygwin version 1.7 is released, this is one of a subset of prescribed work-arounds. You can find others here: Obviously your particular work-around is only valid for cases like yours where the sshd server doesn't need the ability to impersonate (i.e. switch to) other users. To answer the obvious follow-up question, version 1.7 of the Cygwin package is in the works for release sometime this year.
