I wanted to install add on software using rpm format. I followed the instructions under http://cygwin.cjb.net/, downloaded and installed the rpm 3.0.6 binary using cd /; tar xvzf ... Did a rpm --initdb Now after trying to install the forst package, rpm complains about the following and core dumps: andreas AT AKLEMM ~ $ rpm -i /dos/software/cygwin/mktemp-1.5-1.i386-cygwin.rpm failed to open /etc/mtab: No such file or directory assertion "fd && fd->magic == FDMAGIC" failed: file "rpmio.c", line 428 0 [sig] rpm 792 stackdump: Dumping stack trace to rpm.exe.stackdump Aborted (core dumped) Any idea why ? Or is perhaps rpm not recommended ?
