yes i have, in fact. VI runs fine at command prompt, but the colors i used
to see are gone tho... dunno whether that would affect things.

wat could be the problem?

Have you tried to launch vi from the comman prompt ?
Does it start properly ? Have you upgraded the ncurses
package recently ?
