Btw, I didn't see anyone answering this question raised by this subject,
although it should be fairly obvious.

The "Error reading line numbers" is because the DLLs that are being read
don't have any line number information.  Cygwin gdb only understands the
line number information provided by cygwin gcc.  Obviously, Windows'
system dlls are not going to have this information.
