I asked a question about this a few days ago.
In the FAQ there is no indication of when to use binary mounts:

  If you want to put the release onto a drive that's not drive 'C',
  then you *have* to use the `mount' command if you want to make   
progress.

The example shows a text mount.  Is that correct?
