A few weeks ago, people posted various messages regarding slow startup
times when launching bash under B19. I have not seen a resolution to this
problem, but have noticed something odd that may be related:

I have three (apparent) drives on my Pentium 90 laptop:
  C: is a real drive
H: is a drivespace compressed drive, hosted on C:
e: is a remote drive only available when logged into my ISP

The B19 distribution is installed under h:\cygnus

c: is mounted as /
e: is mounted as /e
h: is mounted as /h

With no ISP connection:
From an MSDOS prompt "c:>", launching bash takes 8-10 seconds
From an MSDOS prompt "h:>", launching bash takes less than 2 seconds

Dialed in to my ISP:
From an MSDOS prompt "c:>", launching bash takes 7-8 seconds
From an MSDOS prompt "h:>", launching bash takes less than 0.5 seconds
    (appears instantaneous)

OK, so some time is obviously being lost when the /e mount is unavailable.
But why the dramatic difference betwen launching from c: and h:?
