Here is my 2c worth.

Modify bash to always open stdin in binary.
Modify bash to default open stdout, stderr in binary and provide 
settings to modify this.
Modify the readline function to replace the \r\n combination with \n.

The above modifications will allow bash to operate on both line endings 
without problems and will provide the means to have a personal 
preference for the output from bash.
