This is probably a FAQ, but I've digested all available documentation and
haven't found the answer.  

I'm looking for the reason why 'read' isn't waiting for input from the
keyboard.  

Just a simple script ...

#!/bin/sh
echo "Read 1"
read one
echo "Read 2"
read two
# end of script

.... will complete without pausing for user input.

Help!
